Review-Serpent & Dove

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 4 stars ⁣

Synopsis from GoodReads:

Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned.

Sworn to the Church as a Chasseur, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. His path was never meant to cross with Lou's, but a wicked stunt forces them into an impossible union—holy matrimony.

The war between witches and Church is an ancient one, and Lou's most dangerous enemies bring a fate worse than fire. Unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, a choice must be made.

And love makes fools of us all.

My Thoughts: Spoiler Free

So glad I finally read this and during spooky season too! Though this book is about witches and witch hunters, this is a love story at its core. We have two characters, Lou and Reid, and the book is told in their POV.

Forced to marry one another, Lou and Reid are the odd couple and make for a great steamy slow brewing romance filled with hate and tension and a dash of lust! Lou is a witch in hiding. Who is she hiding from, and why? Well that's the mystery of the story. And you will never believe it when it is finally revealed. It will anger you and break your heart.

Reid hunts and burns witches without mercy. His hatred towards them rivals with the church. But Reid takes his marital vows serious and will protect Lou at all costs. As the reader we are left wondering, how will he react when he finds out what Lou really is? Will he remain loyal?. .

My takeaways: I absolutely love Lou's character, her sarcastic remarks and her willingness to always embarrass and anger Reid was so satisfying. I especially loved her bar song she would sing to get a reaction out of him. I fell in love with Reid hard, not gonna lie. Rhysand who?? Just kidding. Good thing they're not in the same story. ; ) I adore Coco and kind of want to be her. Overall this story delivered in witch lore and forbidden romance. I look forward to reading Blood & Honey.
